Susar Farm 2012 Open Horse Shows

Our first show of 2012 was sunny and cool with a great group of folks showing. At the end of the day, Ericka Forstrom was the Overall Champion, with Courtney Burgren reserve. The Walk Trot Champion was Jan Cooper with her first big win on her home trained Asil Arabian Ibn Naheed. Reserve Walk Trot went to another Asil Arabian, Treff Haven Alizeer owned and ridden by Chris Bode.
We love that we have so many different kinds of equines showing at Susar Farm. At this show we had Arabians, Quarter Horses, Paints, a Walker, Minis and a wonderful mule named Lucy Longears! We welcome all comers and really enjoy the variety of both "horses" and people.
As usual the western classes were quite large and competetive and many good rides were seen.
Trail is always lots of fun although not everyone is always in total agreement. Sometimes our four footed friends do not see a lot of point in stepping on some of the things we invent for them to step on!
There is something for everyone at Susar Farm. Our next generation of show champions show here in Leadline.
Jan and Ibby trot their stuff in English.
Our overall high point winner for our March show was Lauren Landau with Cookie Feagins being Reserve Walk Trot to Lauren. Our Walk trot Canter Champion was Courtney Bruggren and our Walk Trot Canter Reserve was Catherine Arndt. Everyone did a lovely job and the weather was perfect!
We had some old faces and some new at this show. Pam Spillman brought her young student to show her Mini and it was so nice to see Pam! Pam started showing with us as a kid when we were still on 1171. This show we had three exhibitors from long ago....Cookie Feagins showed her palomino Sonny, and both Pam and Andrea Spillman showed. All of these friends first showed with us many years ago at the old farm. It is always so nice to see old friends and this is one of the things we treasure about these shows!
Micala Brown and Misty demonstrate a nice job of side passing in Hard Trail.
Catherine and Luca are becoming a lovely pair! Catherine started showing several years ago as a riding academy kid and has grown into a nice rider.
Sonny did not mind the little blue gizmo in trail, but some of the horses thought it was a horse eater for sure! Several of the horses pushed it off the barrel before the rider had a chance to grab it, which unfortunately made it imporssible for the rider to complete the requirements of the obstacle! Such is showing!
We are always glad to see the next generation of exhibitors get started.
Our April 2012 Show was sunny and cool and a lovely day to spend with the horses at a show. Our High Point winners for the day were right to left, Steve Bode, Overall Champion, Jan Cooper, Walk Trot Champion, Cookie Feagins who tied Jan for the Walk Trot Championship, and Amy Harris who was reserve Walk Trot Canter Champion to Steve.
The western halter classes were large and competetive and some really nice horses showed.
Amy Harris and Andrea Spillman did very well in Pairs even though they just met each other today.
It was great to see some of our traditionally western only riders enter english! They did very well and I think all of the horses involved enjoyed it as much as the people. Chris and Steve Bode and Courtney Bruggren all rode English today for the first time. It is great to have a situation where people feel safe enough to venture into new areas without fear.
This is Ariela Harris, one of our junior riders. She, her mother Amy and her grandmother Cindy Kravik were all showing today. It is so nice to see this generational love of horses andquest for excellence.
Our May show ended up with Chris Bode as Overall Champion and Walk Trot Champion with Steve Bode being Walk Trot Canter Champion. Mia McClelland and Courtney Bruggard were Walk Trot and Walk Trot Canter Reserve Champions.
Chris and Ali showing the good work they did to win the Overall Championship today!
We had many wonderful old friends showing this show! Here is Angie Williams and her pal Winston making their show debut!
Andrea Spillman, another decades long friend was showing today.
Helen Hogan brought her new horse Silky to give him some experience showing.
English Halter was a good class!
October is our Halloween show and the costume class is always a lot of fun! We have ghosts and goblins of every age and no one is too young or too old to get into the fun!
The costumes we see at Halloween can get very creative and elaborate!
Western Halter is always an excellent and highly competetive class.
Trail classes are always both fun and demanding. Here Elizabeth and Bada go for their Halloween treat.
Sweeping the arena with a witches broom is a logical thing to do at a Halloween horse show!
In October we had a good English turnout with quite a few new faces showing.
Courtney and Amy were our Walk Trot Canter Champions for the day with only one point between them, and Cookie Feagins and Sara Flores were our Walk Trot winners.
Our 2012 Overall High Point Champion, and also our Adult Walk Trot Canter Champion, as well as the winner of our Tiki Hard Trail Memorial Trophy, and our Satron English Memorial Trophy is Courtney Bruggren with her lovely mare Honey. Courtney has done a wonderful job all year long!
Our Winners for 2012 are Courtney Bruggren, Overall, WTC Adult, Tiki Hard Trail and Satron English Memorials, Steve Bode our WTC Adult Reserve Champion and also winner of our Buzznai Versatility Trophy, our Kid Western trophy and the Frills Pattern trophy, Cookie Feagins, our Adult Walk Trot Champion and winner of the Tiki Easy Trail trophy and the Dancer Walk Trot trophy, Sydney Peck is our 12-17 WT Champion and Sarah Flores is reserve. Our Walk Trot Canter 12- 17 champion is Breck Sunlin. Jan Cooper won the AK Maslaha memorial trophy and Chris Bode was our reeserve WT Adult Champion and the winner of the Drinkers of the Wind Performance Challenge trophy sponsored by the Institute for the Desert Arabian Horse and going to the Asil Arabian with the most performance points for the year.
We had wonderful weather and it is always lots of fun with Tommy and Diane Whitson and Sue Stewart judge our High Point Shows. We had the added pleasure of having Tommy and Dianes grandaughter (her mother started showing with us in the 70's in utero) show in leadline!
Everyone was tired, but happy at the end of the show. Here Cookie and Sunny admire their trophies.
