Our first show of 2013 was wonderful! We had 39 entries in Western Halter, and all of the Walk Trot Classes had to be split. Everyone had a good time and we had some beautiful rides and some lovely wins!
We always love the contrasts we see at these Open Shows. Here we have a Half Arabian Palomino, a Gypsy Paint, and a Bay Quarter Horse all in the same class!
Ericka brought Electra to her first show. Ericka is taking horses rescued from the Bluebonnet Rescue and training them so that they can be ready to go to a forever home. Electra did a good job and we applaud Ericka for her efforts in this direction!
Trail classes are always challenging and several of the horses were not sure that they were so very patriotic when asked to walk over "water" with an American flag flapping in their face!
Ibby told Jan that if she wanted to walk on water she could do it alone!
English classes were also very large and we had many very nice riders and horses!
We had quite a few brand new riders at this show and were really pleased to meet new friends.
Kryastal Knott and Amy Harris were two of our High Point Champions and Andrea Spillman and Allie Arnold were the others.
Allie Arnold and her Appy had a great show!
Andrea Spillman was our Overall HP winner.
Our April show enjoyed gorgeous weather, blue skis and warm temperatures and we had lots of old friends showing as well as quite a few new faces. Our old pal Addie (Satron), Jan Coopers 29 year old Arabian gelding achieved a perfect score in Easy Trail carrying Victoria Jones, a young student of Jans.
Terri Eldredge and Snippy had a wonderful show and did a fantastic job in Hard Trail in a course that many of our veteran trail compeitors found quite dunting.
One of our new friends, Misty Lyn Nicholson, came riding a very green horse only to take home the Overall High Point for the day.
Ericka Forstrom is fostering and training horses from the Bluebonnet Rescue and she brings them here to Susar to give them experiene and prepare them for their forever owners. We are proud of Ericka and all of the folks associated with equine rescue and try to support them whenever we can.
In recent years we have been alarmed that we seem to see fewer and fewer under 12 riders in the shows. We know that a strong association with horses helps kids to avoid the many pitfalls of youth and were really happy to see that we had around 8 or 10 under 12 kiddos showing on Sunday.
At the end of the day we had a tie for Overall High Point (and WTC High Point) between Andrea Spillman showing Khazzy and Misty Lyn Nicholson. Our WT Champions were Georgia Blackburn Champion and Delney Elliott, Reserve. Everyone did a lovely job and we hope to see you back in May.
After a very strange year where four of our seven shows were rained out, we finally did get out High Point Show in on December 1st. We had a nice turnout, with lots of good rides and wonderful horses and at the end of the day the Year End Champion overall was Liz Endsley who was also our Adult Walk Trot Champion.
Ali and Chris Bode had a wonderful Day with Chris taking home the Adult Walk Trot Reserve Championship, as well as the Tiki Hard Trail Silver Platter and the Institute for the Desert Arabian Horse Performance Challenge Trophy. We are so proud of the porogress Chris has made training Ali!
Satron (Addie to his many friends) and his young rider Victoria Jones won the Walk Trot 12-17 High Point as well as the Tiki Easy Trail Memorial Trophy and the Dancer Walk Trot Trophy.
Steve Bode and Tucker won the Adult Walk Trot Canter Year End Championship as well as the Sundansk Kid Western Pleasure Trophy and the Frills Pattern Trophy. Steve and Tucker continue to put on wonderful performances.
Hank and Gail Williams were Reserve Walk Trot Canter Champions and also took home the Satron English Pleasure Trophy.
Our Pairs classes are judged 50% match and 50% work, and Gail Williams and Chris Bode with Ali and Hank are very hard to beat! This is not a costume class, but we welcome individual expression here, so the Christmas touches are appreciated.
OIur Under 12 WT Champion was Kristen Hayes with Aiden Spratt being the reserve champion.
At the end of the day our winners were, Overall Champion Liz Endsley, and Liz was also the WT Adult Champion with Chris Bode being Reserve. Our Adult Walk Trot Canter Champion was Steve Bode with Gail Williams as reserve. Our Walk Trot Canter 12-17 went to Cathleen Arndt with Madeline Barta reserve and our Walk Trot Canter Under 12 Champion was Allie Arnold with Lacy Goldenburg as reserve. The Walk Trot 12-17 Champion was Macala Brown with Victoria Jones Reserve and the WT Under 12 Champion was Kristen Hayes with Aiden Spratt Reserve.
We had our Costume class because our October show was rained out and we had some marvelous costumes. This was our First Place Winner.
This show was held December 1 and it was COLD! Many of our costume folks had to have been freezing!
Cathleen Arndt and Luca had a great show.
Wins are nice but when all is said and done the most important thing is the love between the horse and his human and this is the point we hope that everyone who comes to Susar takes away.
